Library Journal (07/15/2008)
Featuring nearly 1000 illustrations from more than 250 artists, Dawber (principal lecturer in fashion, Liverpool John Moores Univ.) covers fashion for women, men, and children; sportswear; high fashion; and accessories. Traditional watercolors, acrylics, and pencil drawings appear alongside designs using Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia FreeHand, and digital photography. Web sites and email addresses are provided for nearly all illustrators. Though they hail from "Norway to South Africa, America to Russia," none is identified by his or her country of origin. In what is purely a sourcebook, each illustration is accompanied only by artist, title, and medium information. This will serve the advanced or professional illustrator seeking inspiration. The introduction, illustration notes, and quotations will help entry-level and advanced students initiate the design process. For a similar volume aimed at a broader audience, see Laird Borrelli's "Fashion Illustration by Fashion Designers". Copyright 2008 Reed Business Information.
